So, we got the news feed running a bit better now, and I must say, it was a pretty good to see old man Robin Williams and his daughter Zelda Williams promoting the new remake of Ocarina of Time (is that one ironic contradiction or what?). Anyways, let’s start with our Card of the Night, shall we?
Our Card of the Night is none other than Elemental Hero Neos, the signature card of Jayden Yuki of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX series! With a base stat of a signature 2500 attack and 2000 defense, he stands strong along with his many support cards. He also has 13 various fusion variations:
Neo-Spacian Air Hummingbird: Elemental Hero Air Neos
Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin: Elemental Hero Aqua Neos
Neo-Spacian Dark Panther: Elemental Hero Dark Neos
Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab: Elemental Hero Flare Neos
Neo-Spacian Glow Moss: Elemental Hero Glow Neos
Neo-Spacian Grand Mole: Elemental Hero Grand Neos
Neo-Spacian Marine Dolphin: Elemental Hero Marine Neos
Neo-Spacian Grand Mole/Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab: Elemental Hero Magma Neos
Neo-Spacian Air Hummingbird/Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin: Elemental Hero Storm Neos
Neo-Spacian Dark Panther/Neo-Spacian Glow Moss: Elemental Hero Chaos Neos
Rainbow Dragon or Rainbow Dark Dragon: Rainbow Neos
1 Warrior-type monster: Elemental Hero Neos Knight
Any 5 “Neos,” “Neo-Spacian,” “Elemental Hero,” “Destiny Hero,” or “Evil Hero”: Elemental Hero Divine Neos
As you can see, Elemental Hero Neos can be very versatile and give you quite a few options if you plan to fuse him through contact fusion, which, if you don’t know, doesn’t require a Polymerization (with the exception of the latter 3 fusions). In either case, each fusion allows Neos to gain some sort of effect, so deciding what and when to fuse is all part of the strategy when using Elemental Hero Neos.
Because the majority of Neos’ fusions require contact fusion, you must find ways to quickly summon Neos and your corresponding monsters as fast as possible, while also ensuring you still have monster as back up if your opponent is capable of countering your fusion summons through Non-Fusion Area or De-Fusion. Of course, some notable cards that would help you summon Neos would be Ancient Rules, Birthright, Fake Hero, or Elemental Hero Necroshade, but if you find yourself in need of a Neos, you can search your deck via E- Emergency Call, Summoner’s Art, Elemental Hero Stratos, and Kid Guard.
Various Neo-Spacian support cards which can eessentially help you with Neos and his fusions are Cocoon Party, Cocoon Rebirth, Cocoon Veil, Common Soul, Contact, Convert Contact, NEX, and Space Gift. The majority of the Cocoon cards revolve around helping you get the Neo-Spacians on the field by using their “baby” versions. This allows for some much needed leeway as you try to get both Neos and a Neo-Spacian on the field for fusion preparation. Cards specifically for Neos, however, include Instant Neo Space, Neos Force, and Wrath of Neos; the latter of which can completely wipe the field clean of all cards!
The greatest weakness of Neos is not being able to be summoned in order to contact fusion with a corresponding Neo-Spacian. Of course, Rainbow Neos, Elemental Hero Neos Knight, and Elemental Hero Divine Neos don’t require you to contact fusion, therefore is somewhat easier, but chances are, you’re aiming for another fusion variation. Of course, cards such as Double Summon could help you with either summoning Neos, or setting up your field for a fusion is you also use Soul Exchange to use your opponent’s monsters. A minor weakness in terms of his fusions, are the fact that they do not stay out on the field for long, but is easily correctable with Neo Space.
Overall, Elemental Hero stands as one of the most supported cards in the game, and despite not having any effects, his fusion counterparts make up for his lack of effects. His rating? 9.5/10 for a good base stat, and for being very flexible in terms of strategy. He is, of course, a very powerful contender to deal with, so don’t underestimate him, or he may prove to be quite difficult in the long run!
