Well, we’re only a matter of hours until Pokemon Direct, but a promising rumor may have leaked out the information a bit early!
The rumor states that the announcement tomorrow will be an official unveiling of Pokemon Rainbow, which encompasses the first four generations of Pokemon (sorry, Unova/Isshu fans), which is essentially a collection of Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum worlds. Graphics wise, we probably won’t be seeing the classic top-down 2D/semi-3D effects, as it was stated that the camera would be much more dynamic, and everything would have clean, dark lines.
A potential battle states that the graphics would move away from the 2D pixel versions, aside from the interface, and there would be an entirely new trainer that uses a Pikachu against a wild Weedle.
In terms of storyline, it will occur at the same time period as Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, but nothing else was said in relation to the storyline. 20 new Pokemon, however, were said to be added, including a new Eeveelution, Draconeon (possibly a Dragon-element Eevee), and some brand new Pokemon, such as Verbill.
Though platforms were neglected, the rumor states that a companion Wii U app would launch alongside the game, but that won’t be covered tomorrow (assuming Pokemon Rainbow is announced tomorrow). The logo for this app features Pikachu, Munna, Treeko, Cyndaquil, and Piplup, all of which pop up from various countries. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily point that the game is Wii U only. As the 3DS has a large file size capability, it can be possible to have Pokemon Rainbow released for both the 3DS and/or Wii U, just as the next Super Smash Bros. is being developed for both systems. This would allow for some extra connectivity features, such as porting your 3DS team onto your Wii U, or vice versa. (This last part is not stated in the rumor, but a speculation from me).
If this rumor proves to be true, then we really do have the next evolution of the Pokemon franchise on our hands!
