Though it seems like The Incredible Hulk won’t be getting a sequel during Marvel’s Phase 2 cycle of movies (the Phases are the sets of movies released either before or after The Avengers, with movies that occurred before The Avengers labeled as Phase 1, and the upcoming sequels (Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Thor: Dark World) as Phase 2. Phase 3 would be movies that occur after The Avengers 2), there might be some glistening hope for a new Hulk movie during Marvel’s Phase 3 cycle.
Rumor has it that the new Hulk movie will take concepts from the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk storylines, which will then coincide with the other Phase 3 cycle movies Ant-Man and Doctor Strange. Here’s the basic summery of both storylines:
In Planet Hulk, good ol’ Hulk is launched into outer space by the smartest and brightest of the Marvel universe, which includes Tony Star, Reed Richards, and even Professor X just to name a few. Of course, the Hulk doesn’t technically go willingly, but the reasoning for sending him up to space is that he’s simply too dangerous to be on Earth. World War Hulk then continues the story, as Hulk descends back onto Earth with new allies from a distant planet, and then he rages war against the same people who tricked him into being launched to space.
The only potential fallacy in this rumor is that Marvel doesn’t currently own the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, as well as the timing, as some of the characters in these two story arcs have yet to be introduced. Thoughts?
