Sword Art Online was a cult phenomenon back when it debuted last year, and now, the English translations are in the works! Aniplex USA has announced that both English Subbed and English Dubbed versions of the anime are being set to release on both DVD and Blu-Ray beginning in August 2013, with new releases each month up until November 2013. The entire set will cost $112.98 USD each for Blu-Ray, and $49.98 USD each for DVD (a bit pricey, eh?). Additionally, Sword Art Online’s dubbed version will be airing on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block beginning in August.
On the Blu-ray side, the first set will launch 8/13/2013 and have episode 1-7, while the second set will launch 9/17/2013 with episodes 8-14. The third set will mark the beginning of the second half of Sword Art Online’s arc, and launch on 10/15/2013 with episodes 15-19, while the fourth set will launch on 11/19/2013 with episodes 20-25. Each set includes 2 Blu-ray discs and 1 CD, all jam packed with some bonus content.
On the DVD side, the number of episodes in each set and the launch date remains the same, but you’ll be getting it in 2 DVD discs rather than 3 with significantly less bonus content compared to the Blu-ray versions. Additionally, the prices listed were for the special editions, so standard Blu-ray packages come at $89.98 USD each and standard DVD packages are priced at $39.98 USD each.
