The PS Vita TV wasn’t the only new Vita-related announcement today; Sony has just announced the 2nd generation of their (in)famous handheld! The new rendition will launch on October 10, 2013 in Japan and is set to be 20% thinner and 15% lighter than the original. The screen will drop the OLED display in favor of an HD liquid crystal display.
The system will also come with a better battery, which Sony claims will give you 1 hour more playtime over the original. Additionally, you’ll now be able to charge the system with a micro USB cable instead of relying on a wall charger. There will also be 1 GB of internal memory packed into the new Vita, though you’ll still need a memory card if you plan on playing quite a few games on it. Aside from a slight button reconfiguration, everything else is essentially the same.
Japan will be getting the new Vita in 6 colors: Pink, Black, Yellow, Gray, White, and Baby Blue. No word yet on when/if the new Vita will be hitting the international market.
