In the current mainstream music industry, music has become much more technologically focused in order to boost the singer/instrumentalist’s vocal or instrumental sounds. Most of the well-known musicians often pay songwriters to write the popular songs being heard today, with a small fraction of the industry containing singer/songwriters. Music fanatics are also often split between their preferences; while some prefer the technological manipulations that are widespread amongst popular music, there are those that prefer authentic instrumental and vocal sounds. Nevertheless, the music industry is fairly hard to get into, as competition within the field is extremely high, so the possibility that there may be highly talented musicians who simply have not been caught by the public just yet.
Natalie Aley + New Cycle is a collaborative music effort between Natalie Aley and Daniel Carneiro, both of whom write and produce their own songs. They carry in their arsenal of talents a perfect balance between musical technology and authentic vocal and instrumental sounds. These individuals formed up their 2-person band in 2008, and with Natalie’s astounding vocal talent and Daniel’s equally incredible instrumental talents, they set off to make electronic, funk, disco, and Brazilian music.
Natalie began performing at the age of 10, participating in her yearly school musicals. At first, she began as a songwriter, but slowly took up acting and singing over time. By the age of 16, she performed professionally with the country band “Nobody Home,” and a year later, she would enroll in the Jazz College. Natalie landed the lead role in the “We Will Rock You” musical as Scaramouche. Soon afterwards, she took part in “The Songs of the Sea,” a singing contest set in Ukraine, and won the first place prize of $8,000. After winning the competition, she would use her prize money to fund her way to her new home in Los Angeles, California.
Her inspirations come from reading the bios of famous singers and their struggle to become recognized by the world. By combining her love for listening to music as well as her strong passion for singing, she uses her songwriting skills to tell her own stories.
Daniel originated from Brazil and began playing the bass at the age of 6. His early inspiration came from his uncle, who was an amazing guitar player that had been self-taught to play by ear. Unfortunately, his uncle never had an education and did not play professionally, so while Daniel aspired to be like his uncle, he wanted to make his own way of life. His decision would eventually lead him to enroll in the Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA), a decision that would then lead him to take composing classes in the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) where he would score a few movies. Some of his most notable works can be found on his official site at http://www.danielcarneiro.com.
Natalie and Daniel finally met each other at a concert in 2008, and after a few years, they combined their vocal, instrumental, and songwriting skills to form Natalie Aley + New Cycle in 2011. The styles created by bands such as Florence and the Machines, Queen, and even Taylor Swift resonate with their music. They’ve also been working with Queen guitarist and “We Will Rock You” songwriter Brian May. Additionally, they’ve worked with Ann Marie Hamilton Wallace, who was the songwriter for “The Best I Ever Had” by Drake and the 80’s hit “Falling in Love Again.” Right now, they’re working at Conway Recording Studios, leading them to work and learn from other songwriters.
When asked on what advice both of them would give to other aspiring musicians, they said:
“Never give up, practice, play, hang out with other musicians, learn, and organize your time and come up with the routine.”
As of right now, Natalie Aley + New Cycle is currently limited to playing in California as they continue to search for a record deal. Nevertheless, they have developed a loyal, dedicated following, to which they would like to say:
“Thank you for supporting. Please spread the word!”
As of right now, they have 40,000 followers on Instagram, and what drives them now are the compliments each fan leaves for them.
