Nintendo Direct: Nintendo 3DS XL revealed

So, E3 2012 may be long gone and over, but Nintendo still had a few things to announced: this time, it comes in the form of a super sized 3DS, the 3DS XL to be exact! The screens on the 3DS XL provide a 90% larger view, with the top screen measuring to 4.88 inches diagonally, and the bottom touch screen measuring to 4.18 inches diagonally. The system will retail at $199.99, and will be available in red or blue this August.

The downside? That little Circle Pad Pro will kinda sorta probably not be compatible with the super sized system, and Nintendo neglected to add a second circle pad to the system. Also, the battery life is set to be larger, though unknown, but a charge adapter WILL NOT BE INCLUDED, with reasons that it would keep the cost down. Never fear though, because past charges have been confirmed to work.

Larger Version of Nintendo 3DS System Launches Alongside New Super Mario Bros. 2 on Aug. 19

REDMOND, Wash., June 22, 2012 – A big year for the Nintendo 3DS system is about to get even bigger. In a Nintendo Direct video on June 21, Nintendo revealed plans to launch Nintendo 3DS XL, a new version of Nintendo 3DS with 90 percent larger screens. When it becomes available across North America on Aug. 19 at a suggested retail price of $199.99, the new system will create even more immersive entertainment experiences for users, delivering a wealth of games and video content that can be enjoyed on the go.

Nintendo 3DS XL features an updated form factor and will be available in Red or Blue. The new system’s battery life outperforms that of the original Nintendo 3DS, and it comes bundled with a 4 GB SD card, which owners can use to store content such as downloadable games and videos from the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo 3DS XL launches on Aug. 19, the same day as New Super Mario Bros. 2, a new installment in the fan-favorite Mario game series.

This is another piece of interesting news stemming from Nintendo Direct: starting today, Japanese 3DS owners will be able to download some unreleased games and play the demo versions of those games! The titles are also one of the most highly anticipated, ranging from Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater, to Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy. You can probably imagine the massive file sizes that’ll have to be downloaded before players can play the game, but it’s nice seeing Nintendo finally bringing out retail demos for download!

Nintendo Direct: Fire Emblem: Kakuse set for April 19th, 2012 release (Japan)

You may remember one of our recent Fire Emblem 3DS about release and content information stated by The Nikkei, which gave a March release date and the title of being the first of many 3DS games that will have paid DLC capabilities. Well, as a little update, the Nintendo Direct conference has given the game an official name, Fire Emblem: Kakuse, and also an official release date: April 19th, 2012; not too far off from the March window, but the other facts reported previously still stand. Iwata has stated that this will be an original entry, yet also retain some elements from the previous games. So, when will everyone from the North American and PAL territories get this game, Nintendo?

Nintendo Direct: Kid Icarus: Uprising features online play

With Nintendo Direct basically over, we’ve got a slew of pretty cool information to share with all of you! The hottest one, perhaps, concerns Kid Icarus: Uprising, and well, the title says it all! If you all remember the trailer shown at E3 2011, you’ll remember that there was a mode where 6 players could duke it out on a relatively large battlefield using weapons that could also be found in the main game! It was a pretty cool mode that’ll help boost the game’s replayability, and one could only wonder if the same structure could be used for the new Smash Bros. game set to release for the 3DS and Wii U! You’ll have a choice of 3v3 battles, or a chaotic Battle Royale in local play and online multiplayer play; anyone excited yet? Kid Icarus: Uprising comes out on March 22nd, 2012 in North America.

Nintendo Direct to launch tonight, Dec. 26th, 2011

Well, if you’ve been following the news lately, you’ll know that Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Direct conference for Dec. 27th, 2011 (which is Dec. 26th, 2011 here in the U.S. because of the time difference). It’s possible that there could be some new information related to the 3DS, but we’ll have to wait and see what Iwata and Co. have planned! You can be sure that we’ll cover whatever new that may come up in the broadcast soon afterwards!
